From Sao Paulo, fly to Alto Floresta and transfer by boat to the heart of the Amazon jungle with accommodations at a nature lodge within the Cristalino State Park. After several days in the Amazon, transfer to the Pantanal. One of the last great wildernesses. It is the largest contiguous wetland on the planet. A UNESCO site, it is also South America's primary wildlife sanctuary. The Pantanal is a bio-geographic mixing bowl containing elements of the Amazon and Atlantic rainforests, the Brazilian Savannah and the Paraguayan Chaco. The bio-diversity includes: 698 bird species, 100 mammal, 177 reptiles, 40 amphibians and over 250 fish species.
Then continue to the Savannah, the heartland of central Brazil covering an area equal to the size of Western Europe. Considered the richest savannah in the world, it is high in plant diversity and endemism. Most of Brazil's big rivers find there source in the Savannah, an area of enormous ecological importance with many areas of spectacular beauty. On the Central Brazilian Plateau there are many places of extraordinary interest including rock formations from different geological periods. The watershed separates the Amazon, Silver and Araguaia River basins boasting the region's most stunning waterfalls and limestone caves and creating mysterious and unforgettable scenery at Chapada dos Guimaraes.
