Megalithic Sites
Megaliths are large stones used by ancient peoples to construct structures or monuments for funerary, astronomical and ceremonial purposes. Some megaliths are stones that stand alone, some stand in groups and many others are made of interlocking stone systems that are built without the use of mortar or cement. The term megalith applies to structures build throughout the world by many different peoples and cultures.
It would seem now, (after considerable discovery and research over the years), that specific sites for these structures were chosen according to principles of sacred geometry and concentrated earth energy orientations such as ley lines and energy vortex centers. This Divine knowledge and sensitivity to the earth and her living energies combined with an intrinsic knowledge of astronomy and celestial cycles allowed the ancients to identify particular sacred sites and places of heightened consciousness and awareness in nature such as springs, rivers, caves, grottos, hills, mountains and forests.
The megalithic culture in Europe alone existed from approximately 4000 B.C. to 1500 B.C. and is evidenced by the stone circles, standing stones, menhirs, dolmens, cairns and chambered mounds scattered throughout the continent.
